Playa Blanca – beaches and boat trips

On the isle of Lanzarote there are many nice touristic places and villages. In the South of the isle is a village called Playa Blanca, which has become one of the most important touristic villages in the last years.

Playa Blanca is a very quiet area, ideal for a family holiday. The village offers many facilities to spend your leisure time. You find lots of bars and restaurants, shops and leisure time centers.

As well a sports harbor, where you can practice different kinds of watersports such as sailing, surfing, diving or excursions by boat and fishing experiences, is one of the places of interest in Playa Blanca.

Near to Playa Blanca you can find nice beaches such as the famous Papagayo beaches with white sand and Caribbean atmosphere and crystal-clear water. The most famous beaches in the surroundings of Playa Blanca are Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo with very fine, white sand and easy access for elderly people and children. You can accede to the beaches walking or by bike or rental car. As the Papagayo beaches are situated in the middle of a natural landscape you have to pay an amount of 3 € for the access.

Near the beaches you can find some of the most important monuments and sights to visit such as the National park of Timanfaya, called as well the mountains of fire. You can join a guided excursion by bus through the landscapes and learn interesting things about the volcanic eruptions, which formed this unique landscape.

Another nice place to visit is La Geria, a small village with an authentic character. Here you can visit typical canarian houses, souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. As well Salinas de Janubio or El Golfo are places of interest near Playa Blanca. The called Salinas are former salt mines where until today marine salt is won. El Golfo is a green lake with a very special color, some microorganisms gave this color to the lake.

As well the village of Yaiza is a nice place to visit if you want to see very characteristic places on the isle. Other nice villages you can visit are Las Breñas, from where you can enjoy a nice view over the sea with the isle of Fuerteventura in the background.

From Playa Blanca you can start boat excursions to visit the neighbor island Fuerteventura. The trip is about between 25 and 35 minutes travelling by ferry. On Fuerteventura you can visit the beaches and sand dunes of Corralejo, which are very characteristic for Fuerteventura.

In Playa Blanca and surroundings you can find a big variety of hotels and holiday apartments for your vacations.
