Dear reader,
holiday offers each time a beautiful recovery time. I would like to tell you something about my last trip to one of the biggest canary island.

General facts
Everybody of us loves sun, fun and recreation. And we all love holidays of a very beautiful island. My last trip went to Lanzarote. It was my first time on a canary island. I have not missed Germany. It was a beautiful time of one of the biggest canary island. Beautiful weather, people and a beautyful enviroment.

Time, weather and tour
Also in November I had beautiful weather in comparison to Germany. On the first day I had done a sightseeing tour. I have seen the “Hacha Granade”. The mountain is about 560 meters high. But not only the culture is beautiful also the mentality. You can buy beautiful things.

The water
And the water is very blue and very warm. You can make a diving tour and it is very interessting if you see the coral and the rare fish where you only know from the aquarium. If you dive you forget the time very fast and you will be fascinated like me I think.

Hiking tour into the country
I also recommend a hiking tour into the mountains and the country. There you can learn a lot of the culture. Everybody can go there and will not back to home. I know you can’t imaging what I tell you but try it and you will not be disappointed.
Love

Lanzarote is really bizarre. I’ve been there last year in March, the best month to travel there, I think.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands and is located in the north-east of Fuerteventura. The island has a dramatic landscape: no trees, no bushes, less water. What’s interesting about Lanzarote is its volcanic origin, its volcanic lakes and caves.

I’ seen a lot during the fourteen days and all the time I seemed to be on the moon and sometimes was surprised to see the ocean next to me. But nevertheless the meagre island has vegetation: Cactuses! Cactuses in all shapes you can imagine! Some of them were in full bloom!

Once I made a tour through the famous winegrowing area La Geria. There were deep semi-circular cones made of black volcanic ash with lush green grape-vines in it. I tasted the wine at the vineyard and it was really good, so I bought some bottles for my next relaxing evening in the hotel.

From the Timanfaya National Park, which is the mountainous area of the island, I drove straight up to the north to see the “Mirador del Rio”. In the hotel they told me, that this is a must, a highlight, I should see it. And they were right! The immensity of the Atlantic Ocean is impressive, I could also see the island La Graciosa in the distance.

Back to the south I visited “La Cueva de los Verdes” near the volcano Monte de la Corona. The area has created a spectacular system of underground grotto. Its volcanic gallery is the longest in the world, about 6 km long!

A must is also the “Jardin de Cactus”, a cactus garden which shelters about 10,000 types of cactus.

Besides its vulcanos, Lanzarote is also well known for its outsandig arts and artist.

One of them and probably the most popular is César Manrique.
The artist and architect was born on April 24th, 1919 in Arrecife, wich is a small town in east of Lanzarote. He grew up in San Ginés lagoon and attended to University of La Laguna. In 1945 he changed and went to a Art School in Madrid.

César Manrique immensly affected the planning regulations of lanzarote, because he saw the potential of natural tourism. He developed the tourism in Lanzarote, how it is know now. He allways had an eye on the mass-tourism of Lanzarote and contained it as far as it was economical.
Together with other equal-minded people, he was a precursor of surrealism. He was deeply inpressed, of the fast changing weather conditions in combination of the color refelctions on the steep coast in the northwestern of Lanzarote. This persuaded him to install all those gorgeous viewpoints spotted all over the world.

When he died on 25th September of 1992, an area of great architecture and art died with him. But his brilliant Masterpieces will last for the posterity.

An average water temperature is 18 centigrade at winter time and 23 centigrade at summer.

The southern part of the island is a real paradise for those who seek a possibility to spend the most of the day in nude. Golden sand bays of Papagayo Peninsula with its four beautiful beaches are easy to reach by car.

If you look for extraordinary surroundings, the black sands beach of Janubio will be just perfect for you. It is one of the favorable beaches of naturists for its unique setting.

On the northern coast of Lanzarote, you will find the charming village of Charco del Palo, which is the commonplace of nudity.
Except restaurants and shops, you may stay nude everywhere there and enjoy nude sunbathing along the spectacular coastline.

Lanzarote is the only place on the Canary Islands with naturist resort. There are five hotels which offer naturist facilities with a private sun bathing area. It is a wonderful option for those, who plan only partly naturist holiday.

Lanzarote is just an excellent destination for naturists seeking for picturesque surroundings and wonderful experiences for all year round.

This island of Lanzarote forms part of the group of the Canary Islands, which are all seven situated in the Atlantic Ocean. It is said more exactly 140 kilometres western of the coast of Morocco and 1000 kilometres remotely from the Spanish mainland.

The capital is Arrecife. Spanish is the official language. The island is part of the EU since 1996.

Most of the beaches are common and everybody has access to them. Lagoon beaches with very calm condtions, rough, black beaches with a thundering surf, beaches white-wash, fine sandy particularly suitably for surfers, other better for windsurfers. The choice is almost inexhaustible.

The first tourist resort was Puerto del Carmen and it is still the biggest tourism place on Lanzarote. The reason is obvious – the whole area lies along three long, natural beaches.

Pedalos, banana riding and various other water sport is possible. There are three more huge tourist resorts on Lanzarote: Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen in the south and Costa Teguise at the south-east coast.

To choose your perfect holiday destination on this wonderful island you shall concrete your interests and ideas about how you imagine a satisfactory vacation.

Having arrived at the harbour of Caleta, the only village on the island except for a few less inhabited settlements in the North, you can strengthen yourself in one of the lovely cafés or restaurants of the village.
In Caleta you are free to rent some bicycles in order to explore the incredible beauty of the island. The Playa Francesa in the South is the most beautiful beach on the island that you can reach via bicycle.
The water is clean and warm and the Mediterranean is relatively calm there.

Hiking on La Graciosa is very different and even more intense than bicycling.

Nevertheless it is loved and recommended by all who have ever tried. You should take a whole day to enjoy the beauty of nature on La Graciosa, an island where time seems to stand still and where all your worries will be forgotten.

A total of 213 kilometres of coast on the island of Lanzarote is splitted up into 10 kilometres sandy beaches and 16.5 kilometers of shingle beaches, rocky coast is the rest.

One finds two mountain ranges, on which you can have an impressing view on a cruise. On an island stop during the cruise you have the possibility to explore a little.

To emigrate to Lanzarote is an idea for sure many people have and still are having. If somebody thought about building up a new life on Lanzarote, it would be recommendable to first know the isle a little bit – for example through a holiday.

Lanzarote is also frequently named as the island of the volcanos. The many volcanic eruptions along the times formed a very special and bizarre volcanic landscape on Lanzarote, which is giving its unique character to the island.

The natives have a very happy character and they love celebrations. Many times celebrations, in Spanish called fiesta, are taking place in honor of a patron saint. The canarians benefit this instance to live out their sunny character. If you have the possibility to take part of such a lively “fiesta” you should do so and have a nice time.

The island has centuries old civilization and history.

Some sources even claim that its name descended from Lanzelot, the famous knight of the company at table.

It actually owes his name to the genoese merchant and seafarer Lanceloto Malocetto. The facts have been proofed historically.

Lava-Landscape of the fire-mountains of Lanzarote

Lanzarote has been marked by the volcanic eruptions about 180 years ago. Lava and ash covered a fifth of the whole area. As an effect the most fertile, cultivable areas have been destroyed by the eruptions and a very bizarre landscape has been formed.

Most of the charming landscape on Lanzarote has been conserved because the builidings do never count a lot of storeys. An interesting contrast to the black lava-rocks are the white houses and the palms and cactuses.

Who spends a holiday on the isle of Lanzarot,e for example in Puerto del Carmen, has the well developed infrastructure at his disposal and can easily explore the island by his own.

Around the beatiful viewout point “Mirador del Rio” in the north of the isle there is much to discover:
The valley of the thousand palms, the cactus park or the cave system “Los Jameos Del Agua“.

“Los Jameos de Agua” represent a natural phenomenon of a very special type:
After the big volcanic eruptions the lava has cooled off fastly and flow in channels down to the sea, partly through the underground. Long corridors and caves, which found a different use, like for example for agriculture cultivation or even concert halls or domicils. The artist and architect Cesar Manrique established himself domestically in such a tunnel, where today we find a museum, which it is worth to visit.

Lanzarote was declared by the UNESCO as one of very fex existing world biosphere reservates worldwide, because of its imposing volcanic landscape.

Lanzarote is situated only 130 kilometers from the coast of Africa and 1.000 kilometers from the Spanish mainland. , and it is the one of the Canary islands group most located on the north-east in the Atlantic Ocean.

There are ideal possibilities for individual holiday makers on Lanzarote to explore the island or to learn about its history.

For any budget you can find accomodations on this wonderful island. For example a country house in exclusive surroundings would be a good alternative to stay in Lanzarote and to get to know the life of the locals.

The most remarkable sights are protected and sponsored by the patronage of the islands government.

Some of greatest attractions were created by the world-famous architect and artist César Manrique, they form a single symbiosis between art on high standard, tradition and the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote.

Long time the economic base of the island has been fishing and agriculture. More and more tourism gained on economical importance and developed an excellent infrastructure and exemplary tourist services for a balance between nature and tourism.

There are boiling hot temperatures and rugged lava landscapes extend all over the island. The elemental force of the earth’s core has to be experienced very closely in Lanzarote.

Lanzarote also offers a golf course for visitors and locals, it is situated at the Costa Teguise in the south. Tennis courts form part of most of the big hotel complexes, however, courts and courses for all holiday-makers are also available in holiday centres.

Who would like to discover the island by walking, can join guided groups or take his own initiative. In any case adequate shoes and sufficient water reserves should be part of the basic equipment. On a guided walk in the national park of Timanfaya one learns about the history of origins of the island and the volcanic activities.

Night life in Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise is very eventful and you can find quite a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants in which you can let die away the day.

Holiday-makers have the choice between charming little restaurants at the port promenade and numerous discos and bars in Puerto del Carmen in the south of the capital Arrecife. The shopping centre Atlanticò is particularly popular for teenagers.

In Arrecife starts evey evening a hustle and bustle round the pubs and little bars in the streets around the lagoon Charco de of San Ginés. Not before midnight anyone goes for the first discotheques, before everybody gets in mood at the Playa del Reducto.

The ironman competition on Lanzarote is a very well known triathlon event in a beautiful volcanic island vegetation.

With 180 km of biking, 3.8 km of swimming and 42.2 km of running it is one of the world´s hardest triathlon competitions. The winners (totally 60 qualifiying slots) will automatically qualify for the most famous ironman competition in Kona, Hawaii.

Its similar conditions (Lanzarote island is often called “the Hawaii of Europe”) make it an ideal competition experience on each professional´s way to the World´s number one event in the States.

Also, Lanzarote government and sports associations made it one of the best organized triathlon competitions of the world – especially for the athletes and the members of the race headquarters they created a base with state-of-the-art sports and accomodation facilities. These facilities are located in the club “La Santa”, which is one of the leading sports and leisure complex areas on our planet.

A journey to the hinterland of Lanzarote is recommended to everyone who wants to try out the canary cuisine. Where little restaurants serve typical stews and braising pans you will find the original canary taste.
Rule of thumb:
Where many locals come together, the meal cannot be bad.

For example in Arrieta, El Golfo or Orzola good fish restaurants can be found, as well as in the old downtown of Puerto del Carmen in Playa Blanca.

Staying power is one of the characteristics of Lanzarote. Than in the 18th century, the Timanfaya volcano spewed ash and lava for six years and a third of the fertile ground was buried under, which along the time formed the nowadays so bizarre landscape of the island.

Instead of pausing in despair, the indigenous people got creative and invented the dry cultivation of the fields, what has given a new face to the winegrowing area La Geria.

Another creative vein of the indigenous people are the splendid street paintings and carpets of flowers, sand and coloured salts finding place to celebrate Corpus Christi.
The artists start already weeks before with the work; during a church parade it is destroyed within minutes.

Another important celebration on the Canary Islands is the carnival, which is celebrated for weeks with salsa music and effortful outfits.

In honor of the patron saints, church parades and traditional celebrations are held, which end with lively get-together, music and good meal .

The architect and artist César Manrique which left pieces of evidence of his work everywhere like the residential building which houses the Fundaciòn César Manrique today was extremely formative for the island and its conception. Another masterpiece by the artist is the unusual volcano restaurant El Diabolo.

Lanzarote, a black beauty, an island where the earth has spat its innermost to the outside, a place with a magic charm for tourists who want to know an exotic landscape.

For most Germans the isle is part of the attainable aim to escape from the cold, grey winter.

In only four hours of flight from the center of Europe you can reach the islands of the never-ending spring – the Canary Islands.

An Eldorado for surfers and those who like long sand beaches is called Fuerteventura, while lovers of a lively night-life shall book their holidays in Gran Canaria or Tenerife.

The ones among you who want to discover a bizarre and charming landscape shall visit Lanzarote.

Lanzarote is situated 1000 kilometers from the Spanish mainland and owes her worldwide good reputation beside the climate and nature to the star architect and artist César Manrique.

As architect and artist it has protected her natural beauty and particularly its volcanic composition. He combined art, architecture, tradition and nature, this is one example why tourism and environmental protection do not have to be a contrast.

Lanzarote offers a big choice of activities for everyone, like wonderful beaches for a relaxing holiday under the sun, the fascinating beauty of nature for who likes to explore the bizarre lava formations, rocks and landscapes and many historic buildings and museums.

With 795 km ² Lanzarote is the fourth biggest Canary Island after Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Lanzarote is less green the the more western Canary islands because of its drought.

The Isle of Lanzarote impresses the visitors with its contrast of rude rocks and cliffs and the deep blue colour of the Atlantic Ocean.

The countryside of Lanzarote radiates quiet and inspiration while in the main tourist resorts rules the eventful life. For example in the capital Arrecife and in the touristic stronghold Playa del Carmen the visitor can enjoy a lively nightlife and lots of shopping possibilities and restaurants.

The famous artist Cesar Manrique is mainly responsible that tourism has not influenced too much on the landscape of Lanzarote. One can almost admire everywhere his creation, which is combining nature and tradition with art and architecture.
