Lanzarote, ideal for athletes and active holiday makers
Lanzarote, famous for its bizarre volcanic landscapes, offers ideal opportunities both for sport or ecotourism.
The spectacular National Park of Timanfaya with the "Montanas del Fuego", Fire Mountains, is one of the most important sites of the island. For six years, from 1730 to 1736, the mountains erupted repeatedly, leaving fertile and green land barren, dark and strangely moon-like.
An all year average temperature of about 20 degrees centigrade has given the island its nickname "island of eternal spring" and makes the island the ideal place for active holidays. Popular sports include diving, fishing, surfing and water skiiing as well as mountaing biking, trekking, golf and tennis.
